It was a clear and sunny Sunday morning. 14 of us gathered at the hut at the junction of Island Club Road and Venus Drive before heading off to the SIME forest trail just outside the PUB substation.
As we got out of our cars, we spotted a Peacock Pansy sunning itself on the grass patch. Farther down the path, a Common 4 Rings and a Lesser Dart were getting ready for their maiden flight of the day.

As we walked along the SIME forest path, we came across more butterflies : Common Grass Yellows and Chocolate Grass Yellows were fluttering around Snake Weed bushes, Chestnut Bob skipper darting between flowers, Common Tree Nymph gliding gracefully over the canopy, Elbowed Pierrots darting along the trail and Great Helen zig-zagging thru the trees.
Along the way we also saw a Green Crested Lizard resting on the leaf of Simpoh Air tree,  forest cockroach feeding on Melastoma nectar and a Cicada taking a rest on a participants shirt !

The highlight of the trip must be the discovery of a bat-like butterfly pupa (see picture below) hanging from a Hairy Clidemia branch.  Initially, we thought it was an empty pupa but on closer examination, it was determined to be the pupa of the Cruiser butterfly !

All in all, we counted 38 species of butterflies.
