Xanthotaenia busiris busiris (Yellow Barred)

The Yellow Barred is usually
encountered during the early hours of the day. It flies
very close to the ground and is often in the company of
the Common Faun (Faunis canens arcesilas).
This butterfly is now extinct in Singapore. |

Athyma

This is one of a group of five
Athyma or Sergeant species you will most likely encounter
in the forest. It differs from the rest in that the white
spots on its underside of the forewings and some white
spots on both sides of its hindwings are black-centred.
This particular male specimen was found sipping from
the ground on a really hot day. |

Atlas Moth) - male

The Atlas moth is one of the largest
(~25cm) moth in Singapore. Unlike butterflies, the
caterpillar of the Atlas moth (and most other moths) feeds
on many type of plants, including Guava, Ginger, Melastoma
and Soursop plant. This photo shows a just emerged Atlas
moth drying its wings on its pupa case. |

Euthalia aconthea gurda (Baron) - female

The Baron can usually be found in
orchards and gardens where its larva host plant,
Mangifera indica (Mango) and Scurrula spp are
found. It usually feeds on fallen or ripen fruits. The male is dark
brown in color, with more angled forewings
while the female is paler with broader forewings. |

The Saturn, which belongs to the
Morphinae sub-family, is a forest denizen that usually rests with its
wings closed. This male individual, was found dead with its
wings opened in the forest reserve, displaying its brilliantly
coloured blue and black upperside. On the female, the
upperside is coloured dull orange and black instead. |
