A gem of  a discovery !

On 23rd Feb 2002, BIG explored an area around Upper Pierce that the group have not ventured before. On reaching there, we spotted what looked like a male Eulaceura osteria kumana in flight. As it turned out, it was a male Charaxes solon echo, the sole species and the smallest of its genus found here. We could only identify it when it settled on a branch of a tree displaying its underside with two tails on each hindwing. This is a new discovery and one of the rarest find for Singapore.
