the Plant Group.
Meeting place: Carpark in front of Alexandra Hospital cafeteria
Time: 10:00 am.
Online guide :

direction to Alexandra Hospital.
Nature is beautiful in its complexity -- consider for example butterflies
and their interaction with plants. Some plants serve as nectar sources for
adult butterflies, others serve as food plants for butterfly larvae. Others
don’t serve as food at all, but provide chemicals that butterflies may use
for amorous purposes.
This joint Butterfly Interest Group/Plant
Group trip will begin with a short introductory talk and conclude with a
walk around the wonderful butterfly garden of the Alexandra Hospital. This
marks the third official outing at the grounds of this hospital. Come
and learn about some of our most beloved garden butterflies and the plants
they rely upon, and we can almost guarantee that you’ll be hooked on
learning more about these wonderful animals and plants.
The walk will last about two to three hours.

In April, we were introduced to a number of beautiful butterfly species that
frequent gardens. This time we will take our newly-found butterfly watching
skills to the forest. In addition to focusing on the butterflies of our
forests, we’ll also be on the lookout for their food plants. To what extent
is butterfly distribution limited by their host plants? Come find out with
our butterfly and plant enthusiasts! We meet at 10.00am at the main entrance
carpark of MacRitchie Reservoir Park.
This walk will last about two hours

Butterfly watching

Meeting place: Car Park 7, next to the NIE green house
Time: 10:00 am.
Online guide:
NIE Butterfly garden
and
location mapThe National Institute
of Education established a modest butterfly garden two years ago. Despite
its small size, however, the garden attracts a number of butterfly species,
some of them uncommon. During this session, in addition to looking for
interesting butterflies, we will also share how one can start a butterfly
garden – and what one needs to do to maintain such a garden to keep it both
butterfly- and human-friendly. Dress cool and bring lots of drinking water
as it will get hot and sticky. Join us in our first NSS gotong-royong of the
year and learn a little more about fellow members as well as butterflies and
their favourite plants.
