In the morning you’ll find
me buzzing around,
On forest paths, just a few inches above the ground,
At times, I enjoy relaxing on a leaf or a twig,
You’ll have to look very close for I’m not very big,
Sometimes, a few of us would congregate to eat,
A delicacy that is actually known as bird shit,
Being white and black really sets me apart,
And to top it off, I was named after a body part. |

My colours are black, red, white and yellow,
And I'm a graceful yet rugged kinda fellow,
You'll see me flying in all sorts of weather,
In a lighthearted, carefree, nonchalant manner,
Preferring treetops to do my socialising,
Descending to flowers for my daily feeding,
My female counterpart always flashes a tan,
So now, who am I really then?

They say I look exactly like a dead leaf,
When I fold up my wings and be really stiff,
If I'm disturbed I'll take off real quick,
To escape from predators for my own sake,
Revealing luscious brown and black forewing tips,
Settling down on rotten fruit for a few hasty sips,
I'm also partial to a carcass or moist sand,
Go ahead and identify me if you can.

Wherever you find lime bushes is where you'll find me,
My job is thankless and I am always busy as a bee,
Searching for new leaves to lay my clutch of eggs,
In the safest of places all for my children's sakes,
Each half is yellow and black with a blue and red spot,
I fly swiftly as though in a hurry but am actually not,
People say that I look very much like my husband,
So come on, give it a try, what do you reckon?
